Fill Your Cup Early, With Some Gratitude

"To fully thrive, we must not only eliminate the stressors but also actively seek joyful, loving, fulfilling lives that stimulate growth processes".

-BRUCE H. LIPTON

gratitude(n.)

mid-15c., "good will," from Medieval Latin gratitudinem (nominative gratitudo) "thankfulness," from Latin gratus "thankful, pleasing" (https://www.etymonline.com/word/gratitude)

One thing I had a bad habit in doing, and it started first thing in the morning. Was as soon as I opened my eyelids after a nights rest, and before combing the crust from my eyes. Like a fiend, itching for his "fix". Without given it a second thought, I'd reach for my phone to get a taste. It was automatic.

Checking on the "who's who?" or the "what's what?". Minding everybody's business, but my own. Under the pretense of "trying to stay informed."

After thumbing through all catchy news feeds, and being turned out by bulging, baiting red YouTube thumbnail fonts, and other online post, peddling destruction, doom and lust? With a nervous system shot through the roof. I was rocked, rattled, and wrecked. Confused, in fear, and upset. Ready to abandon all hope, being roped by 'Digital Dope'.

On average, many of us are blitzed with up to 10,000 advertisements a day. If that isn't overkill, I don't know what is. Quantum Physics (study of matter and energy) tells us "energy flows where attention goes." So, who is getting or what are we giving our flow of emotions (energy in motion) to?

After considering our answer to the above question. That might give us a better understanding of why we act, respond, perceive, judge, and relate to not only ourselves, but to others, and the world around us, the way that we do?

Once we know the deep downs of our own personal get downs, we can start taking necessary steps to realign ourselves. Understand, we do have a choice in the matter. We can reduce the amount of bad chemicals in the brain. And that can start first thing in the morning. Setting ourselves up for success. Why not?

To keep things short and sweet, here's a little exercise we can add to the kit. Remember, like most things, you get what you put in. So, if you're looking for a change? And ready, and ripe to break an old habit - here's a little tip from the Hip :

gratitude symbol
  • Upon waking up, before checking any social media, or emails, or pluggin' into the World Wide Web of things. Find a spot, grab a pen/pencil, and paper. Then write down 3-5 things you're grateful for. They could be small or tall. People, objects, or pets. Give it thought, and write 'em down.

  • Go down that list, one by one. Taking a couple minutes to reflect on why you wrote them down? Why are you thankful for them? Meditate on each one, just a minute or two, and be mindful of how they make you feel? Happy? At peace? Loved?

  • Add this as part of your 'wake and bake', doing it daily. Go one week, then shoot for two. See what it does it for you- mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically, even? Notice any improvements to your mood? Or attitude? Or relationship with yourself, and others? Compare how you feel now, opposed to how you did before. Maybe somethings different, and maybe not. You be the judge.

Let me know how it goes. I'd love to hear about it.

'Til very soon,

PEACE.
